Online 8-Hours Re-Examination Certificate

The Driver’s Manual Course is a DMV-approved online program for juveniles and adults who have failed the Virginia DMV knowledge (computer) test three times. The course is completed entirely from home through a DMV-licensed driver training school. Successful completion allows students to retake the DMV knowledge test for the fourth time and thereafter.

Age Requirements:

  • Age 17 and under: Completion of the 36 fifty-minute classroom Driver’s Education requirement is required before enrollment. The certificate must be emailed to the driver training school providing the course prior to enrollment.
  • Age 18 and above: The classroom Driver’s Education component is not required to enroll.

    • Requirements:

  • Valid Virginia learner’s permit

    • Upon completion, Safe Driving Academy issues a Re-Examination Certificate. Once course completion is verified, the certificate is emailed to the student to print and present at the DMV to retake the written knowledge test.
