The Virginia Driver Improvement Program (DIP) is an 8-hour DMV-approved online course available for DMV-ordered, court-ordered, insurance-required, or voluntary enrollment. This course may be used to reduce demerit points, meet legal requirements, or support insurance premium reduction, depending on provider approval.

Drivers required by the Virginia DMV must complete the course within 90 days to avoid license suspension. Drivers under age 18 must attend a classroom-based course and are not eligible for the online option.

Upon successful completion, drivers may earn up to five safe driving points once every two years, with a maximum balance of five points. When court-ordered, the court determines whether points are awarded. After completion, the certificate is emailed and may be printed for DMV, court, insurance, or personal records.
