Online Driver’s Education Program

This Virginia DMV-approved Online Driver’s Education program consists of at least 30 hours of instruction and covers all topics required by law, including alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking laws, fuel-efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness, and organ and tissue donation awareness.

Students must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to enroll. All students choosing the online Driver’s Education option must complete the course through a DMV-licensed driver training school. Homeschooled students are exempt from this requirement. The course is best suited for individuals who can work independently and are comfortable using a computer.

How the Online

Driver’s Ed Course Works

  • Registration payment is received by Safe Driving Academy
  • The online course link is emailed to the student
  • Students create a login and password to access the course
  • The course includes 13 required sections
  • Completion of all sections unlocks the final exam
  • Final Exam Details:

  • The final exam is taken in person at the Safe Driving Academy office
  • 50-question exam, no time limit
  • 80% passing score
  • Testing Hours:

  • Weekdays: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Weekends: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • After Passing

    the Exam:

  • Teens only: completion of a 90-minute Parent-Teen video is required
  • Students become eligible to schedule behind-the-wheel driving lessons
  • If an online course is canceled after login access has been created, a $50 processing fee will be deducted from the refund.
